Transcript of Episode 104: 3 Steps to Take to Encounter God That We Can Learn from Moses
In this episode, I’m going to break down three steps to hear from God and encounter Him—lessons we can learn from Moses in the Bible.
I’ll be reading from Exodus 3 in the NIV version. We pick up with Moses tending the flock of his father-in-law. Remember, he was in a wilderness season, likely wondering where God was and what was going on with his destiny.
“There the angel of the Lord appeared to him in flames of fire from within a bush. Moses saw that though the bush was on fire it did not burn up. So Moses thought, ‘I will go over and see this strange sight—why the bush does not burn up.'”
God appeared to Moses as something that would catch his attention—a bush on fire.
But here’s the key: Moses stopped.
That reminds me of something from my childhood. My mom loved Elvis, and Elvis always sang, “Stop, look, and listen.” Holy Spirit has been bringing that phrase back to me lately: “Stop, look, and listen.”
And that’s exactly what Moses did. He stopped. He looked. And when God saw that Moses came over to look, He called to him from within the bush:
“Moses! Moses!”
God said, “Do not come any closer. Take off your sandals, for the place where you are standing is holy ground.”
Then God identified Himself: “I am the God of your father, the God of Abraham, the God of Isaac, and the God of Jacob.”
Moses hid his face. He was afraid to look at God. It was a significant, sacred moment.
God began to speak to Moses about his purpose. He downloaded instructions. He shared deliverance.
And that’s what I want to impart to you: there are three action steps we can take to encounter God, just like Moses.
Moses took time. He was tending sheep, doing daily duties in the wilderness—then he stopped.
We must stop. We must create time for God.
“If I want to experience more of God, I’m going to make time for it.”
This isn’t about religion or rigid routines. It’s about cultivating awareness. God’s presence is guaranteed. It’s our awareness that fluctuates. And we can take steps to grow that awareness.
Our hearts are like gardens. When we stop, we till the soil, we prepare the land, and we seed the garden with the Word.
“I’m talking about looking at the Word of God. I’m talking about engaging with the Word.”
At one time in my life, I fell asleep while reading the Bible—literally drooling on my chest! There was a lot of resistance, spiritual warfare, and healing that needed to happen.
But I kept showing up. I put in the reps. And over time, my heart began to light up for the Lord.
God showed me that the imagination realm was created to meet with Him. I started using my imagination to step into Scripture, to encounter Him there.
Now, I teach my clients: engage your imagination for God’s glory. Ask Him to cleanse it. Internalize His truth.
This is one of the most important steps—and often the hardest.
Listening means receiving destiny. It means journaling what He speaks. It means pushing through the pain that arises.
“His presence is guaranteed.”
One client told me, “I’m afraid I’m going to disappoint God.” And I felt that too. That belief stood between me and the awareness of His presence.
But God told me:
“You’ll never disappoint Me. You’ve never been a disappointment to Me.”
We must release the lies. Trade them for truth.
“I am a delight to God. He delights in me. I am His daughter. He is pleased with me.”
Set a timer for 5 minutes each day. Sit in the sunlight. Delight in the Lord. Let Him delight in you.
How different would your day look if you knew He delighted in you?
When we value something, we make time for it. So how much time are you creating for God?
If you’re feeling shame or guilt, this isn’t for you. But if you’re ready to grow in awareness, if you desire deeper connection—then let’s follow Moses’ example.
Stop. Look. Listen.
God wants to download to you in 2025. He wants to speak destiny, clarity, and joy into your life.
Tend your garden. Weed it. Water it. And look for the harvest.
Rinse and repeat.
“He delights in you. He loves you. He is pleased.”
